Diary Entry 10

In this lesson i started my Mise En Scene and started to analyise all of my images used on my magazine and stated why they are used and for what reason they were indie.

Mise En Scene

Mise En Scene

My main Image has a twist and is different to any other images featured on my magazine as this picture is edited and been worked on for a long time, on this image i have edited his face to give a graffiti like face paint, that almost look like tears, i edited to look like this because my magazine theme is very vintage and retero and features alot of graffiti, therefore on his face this captures a very appealing and eyecatching image that people can see very clearly from far away. This image also represents an audience and age and genre for my magazine.
Another image used on my front cover represents my genre even better as it concludes of young artists dressed to the style of my magazines genre being indie, also the graffiti background gives the image an urban city feel to it, that makes the image feel very appealing and gives the magazine a proffesional feel to it. Also the black and white image gives the magazine an authentic feel, the low contatrast and bright white appeals to the audience and gives them a sense of honesty and trust. My range of models in this image all have a different pose some looking at the camera anxd some not representing the attitude of the younger audience and how a rebel sort of status is being given away  by this magazine, yet again portraying my intended audience of 16+.

Diary Entry 9

Toaday i Completed tasks such as my schedule so that i could seee what i have and havent done, also i completed my Sell Lines so i could finalise on what sell lines i want to feature on the front of my magazine and what the best most eyecatching sell line would relate to my audience the most, and i have chosen 'Win tickets to READING 2012!' as it relates to everyone within the genre of indie/rock.

Schedule

My schedule is where i keep up to date with what i have to do and what had to be done. This helped me in my planning as i always knew what i had to do next.

Sell Lines

List of Sell Lines

'SKRILLEX'
'Nero'
'Two Door Cinema Club'
'Foster the people'
'Friendly Fires'
'Madness'
'Sub-Focus'
'Rizzle Kicks'

'Its Amazing'
'How did i get here?!'
'The craziest Night of my life'
'Free tickets to Nero'
'Win a Holiday abroad to see Sub-Focus'
'Top Ten Bands this winter'

Final Ideas

'Rise of Two Door Cinema Club' - The first magazine sell line i am going to be using will be this as the band is a typical indie band and are very well known therefore my intended audience will see this relate to it and want to buy the magazine as they have an interest.

'Win Tickets To Reading 2012' - Yet again my audience will read this and want to win therefor making them buy the magazine, reading also relates to my audience as its a indie/rock genre festival.

'I Feed Off Fame' - This tag line is different as it has a different message, and doesnt tell the audience exactly what it is on about but also draws them in as its a quote from someone  famous therefore the audience want to find out and see who they are.

'A chance to win an Iphone 4s' - Yet again to enduldge the audience into thinking they are going to win something, therefore persuading them into buying the magazine as there is a chance they could win something, also the Iphone 4s is very popular and appeals to a younger Audience.

'SKRILLEX INSIDE' - I also like this sell line as it doesnt tell the audience exactly whats inside but gives them a sneak peak of what is inside and will persuade them to buy the magazine as big artists are feautured inside such as SKRILLEX and many others.

Diary Entry 7

Today i started my draft copies of my magaizne, i first started on my front cover, tohelp me produce my front cover i used a NME magazine as a star model and used bits and bobs off of it to make my magazine look the real part and something that couldnt be told apart from any now day magazine on the shelf. When creating my magazine i made sure that my theme stayed the same the whole way through, for example fonts, colours and layout, to test this was consistent i asked people around the school if they thought my front cover and double page spread where from the same magazine, with 98% of them saying yes, i also recieved feedback and all the changes i should make, which i will be completing next lesson.

my drafts so far:

Diary Entry 6

Today i completed my article draft and completed what will be written on my double page spread, when writing my article draft i cam into consideration what the interviewer would be asking, i asked questions that would relate to the audience and also to my magazine, however i feel when i make my actual magazine i will change article draft to match my images and clothes and representattions.

A new and upcoming star has hit the streets of the UK, and is bound to send you MWS fans crazy, currently in the charts at number one ……. And has been for 8 weeks running! This new amazing star is sure to keep you entertained. The young hip star that made his way out of London with a storm is here today to show you MWS fans how he does what he does!
So first of all …. Thanks for coming down today to MWS and speaking for us!
Its okay, anything for MWS used to be a reader myself, never ever thought id be where I am now being interviewed for a magazine I used to love.
So the genre indie was this the lifestyle you always lived and do you have a strong passion for this genre?
Ive always been a typical indie, layed back sort of guy, and growing up in London around the brick lane sort of area, I was always into that vintage, rock and roll look and indie music has always been a massive part of my life and current career., and I wouldn’t change that for the world, singing is my thing and has been since I can remember.
So do you really live this crazy lifestyle we see in all the papers?
Well... I always was a trouble maker, and still am, I can’t change that I just love to have a good time and party on down, that’s all part of growing up though! Its also a big part of my look and feel many of the younger generation seem to be doing the same thing, and feel they can relate better to my music, like when I say ‘Time isn’t wasted when you’re getting wastedd’!
So taking it from you last comment, you write all your own songs?
Yes of course, that’s what music’s all about, getting your point and opinion across and this can easily be done through lyrics! I love writing songs and always will do, even if they’re quick songs about anything, random is fun! were also always partial to a quick freestyle for our
fans as its a bit different and always exciting to see what
we come up with.
So how did you all become the famous ‘Urban Kicks’?
Well weve always been friends since we were kids really, all had music like backgrounds and weve just always had a laugh singing while ones strumming a guitar and another tapping away at the drums, so we eventually thought to make music, and luckily the public like us and weve become quite successful but thats all thanks to you guys.
The Name ‘Urban Kicks’? where did this come from?
Well were all sort of urban, and come from london a very urban city, i dont really know why but we just came up with it, just one of those things that clicked really and i like the way it flows.
So i hear your touring the festivals next summer?
Yeah man a place where we used to love and grew up in to love music and now were playing there, so exiting, weve currently booked reading and glastonbury! it will be amazing and we really cant wait for this amazing experience.
So who’s the most popular with the ladies from this band then?
Well its got to be charlie, hes been offered the most modelling spots from this band and ill tell you what that really helps in that department, he has girls throwing themselves at him left tight and center its nuts!
Well its been an honour interviewing you and i tell you ive had fun, one last question will you be returning to MWS when your first in the singles by next year!?
Of course we will, we always have time for MWS, just want to say thanks to all our fans, and keep reading MWS! its the best music magazine you can get, peace out!

Diary Entry 5

Today I Created a video on my blog of me producing my masthead by text, i videod this and sped it up and added music to give a fast paced video on how i created my initial design of my masthead. I did this not only to portray my masthead but to have other forms of media on my blog and to explore other types of media when going through the stages of making my magazine.

Diary Entry 4

This week i strived to get my blog up to date, and completed my photoshoot for my magazine and gathered enough images to create a good idea of what my magzine will look like and what it will be representing, for example i used a lot of star quality when creating my magazine and looked at many previous magazines when i was completing my product research and aimed to create the perfect magazine which meets all my requirements.

Tuesday 1 November 2011

Audience Profile

When portraying a poll on my blog for a week or two i recieved certain information helping me decide how to produce and distribute my music magazine, this information also helped my knowledge and understanding of music magazines and there typical audience.

1) Do you read music magazines?

The first poll question recieved only 2 of the 4 answers and with only 4 votes, one being 'No' and 3 being 'Sometimes' therefore telling me i either have to little votes or generally not many people read music magazines and maybe it will need a better distributor or a better source of advertisement? for example either using other sources of media for example 'facebook'.

2)Whats the most important aspect of a music magazine?

The second question on my poll recieved 3 answers, and conveyed a very broad view on this question being the most important features of a music magazine are interviews, music information and posters, so not very specific maybe meaning the audience likes many features of music magazines of they like only certain aspects.

3)What influences you to buy music magazines?

The third question on my poll yet again recieved 3 votes 2 being the cover ad and who's featured and one being friends therefore telling me the front cover is possibly the most important feature of a music magazine or magazine in general, so when producing my magazine ill have to make sure the front cover is as classy and professional as possible and will be eye catching and draw my target audience and actual readers in aswell as creating certain demographic groups.

4)Do you prefer?

When asking this question on my poll i asked if the audience prefered magazines online or on print? and recieved more votes for print, letting me know what my best choice is for creating my magazine and that it will  be on print.

5)What makes the main image most appealing?

This was a very important question as the front cover is the most important page on a music magazine and i wanted to know what would draw my audience in the most and what would be most appealing and eye catching. The top two votes were 'star quality' being and looking like a star and letting the audience know your the famous one, and 'clothes' obviously to make you seem a higher class and look more classy and professional and more appealing to the audience, and i will be taking this into consideration when creating my magazine as its very important.

6)What Genre is would you prefer?

This was a very broad question and was asked in interest to see what people thought the most interesting genre of music magazine, i dont think the poll was taken seriously as 'punk' and 'R&B' were top voted, however R&B is acceptable as its very widely sold genre. Where'as punk is not as known anymore and wouldnt be seen on an everyday shop shelf.

Diary Entry 3

This week i started my proposal for my magazine, i portrayed things such as:
·    Type of magazine (detailed description)
·    Content of magazine
·    Style of magazine
·    Competition to your magazine
·    Target audience (detailed)
·    Business features (price, frequency, subscription, cross media synergy, new media
·    Why you feel it will succeed.
I completed this task by being very detailed and listing all the codes and conventions of my magzine and everything it will include, i also included my target audience and how im going to make my magazine relate to them, for example by using certain photos that portray star iconography and props and everything that my audience can relate to there lifestyle.
This is my initial name ideas for my magazine, i took time to analyse other magazines and come up with a name of a similar taste, the names i have come up with also had to have some relation to my audience. I finalised by using modernWaste however abbreviated it to MWS.

Colours

This post portrays my initial colours and why these colours where chosen in relation to my intended audience and how these colours emulate certain emotions and looks.
